9th of September will be an exciting day for all Sony Xperia lovers!

Just hours ago, Sony Xperia has officially uploaded a 30 seconds video of what seems to be the rumored Honami device. This is most likely to be the successor of the current Xperia Z.

From the video itself, the device is set to have a G lens (possible 20.7MP?). Here’s a brief history of what a Sony G lens is. With the remarkable alpha series of cameras that Sony has been producing, we’ll be expecting some decent quality photos to come out of the new lens.

With the launch of the Xperia Z Ultra, we’re expecting this device to also have the same IP rating of IP58. And something that all users have been craving for on their Xperia smartphones, a dedicated camera button!! Now capturing photos underwater will be a breeze.

We can expect that the build quality of this device will be the same as the Z Ultra, tempered glass on the front and back with aluminum on the side. It will spot the same on/off button on the Xperia Z Ultra for an ergonomic touch.

Well, we can’t wait for the official announcement to be made on the September 4th. As the end of the video states, “The best of Sony is about to get even better”!

Xperia Z Ultra: The world’s slimmest full HD smartphone

The Xperia Z Ultra is Sony’s latest phablet. The most notable thing about the device is its size. With a whopping 6.44 inch full HD display, videos and gaming are a please to the eyes. Sony has also answered recent complains of existing screen displays by introducing Triluminos Display and X-Reality for mobile in the Z Ultra. With a wider color spectrum, the Z Ultra is able to produce better and more natural colors that are true to the image/ video. X-Reality for mobile is the upgraded version of the Mobile Bravia Engine 2, and renders images sharper, less noisy, more saturated etc. Here’s the official video to explain the two new technology in the Z Ultra:

Moreover, Sony has came up with a one-two punch by including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Clocking in at a blazing fast speed of 2.2Ghz with 2GB of RAM and a brand new Adreno 330 GPU, this device is SMOOTH and FLUID. We’ve got a demo set to play with for a week and this is the first time we can confidently say that the user experience on a Sony device is top notch! fonearena has done a good job by testing the Z Ultra with the various benchmarks for all you techies to compare. Link is right here!

The Xperia Z Ultra packs the standard NFC connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 and comes in two variants, 3G model (which is already launched in the market) and a LTE 4G model (which is due to release some time in September).

Last but not least, a high end Sony device nowadays will always come encased in a water resistant form. This time, Sony has up-ed one level in the IP ratings, from IP57 to IP58. The Xperia Z Ultra is waterproof, up to a depth of 1.5m and for a duration of 30mins.

Casing Review: X-Doria Bumper

The long-awaited X-Doria bumper has arrived!

DSC_0659

Different from the previous bumper introduced, the X-Doria bumper provides greater support and protection for your Xperia Z. The outer rim of the X-Doria bumper is made of silicone, providing flexibility and elasticity for easy mount on and removal. And the core of the bumper is made of clear hard silicone which provides great support and framing for the phone.

Other than the audio jack, usb port and speakers being unobstructed as well, this bumper has a beveled design designed specially for the power/lock button and the volume keys, granting easy access.

The bumper fits the Xperia Z perfectly and provides a good fit around the edges of the phone. The combination of flexibility and strong core support makes this bumper the perfect fit for your Xperia Z.

Sony’s 2013 new additions: Xperia SP and Xperia L

Sony is coming back strong in 2013. They’ve just bolstered their line-up with two new additional Xperia smartphones, they Xperia SP and Xperia L.

Xperia SP

The Xperia SP is Sony’s new addition in the mid-range smartphone segment and spots the iconic transparent strip, similar to the ones on the Xperia S/P/U. On top of this, it’s built upon an aluminum frame (weighing in at 155g). So we’re expecting a premium feel from the device. Spotting a 4.6″ HD Reality Display (protected by corning gorilla glass) powered by the all new Mobile Bravia Engine 2, the Xperia SP seems to be the successor of the Xperia ion. The Xperia SP is also equipped with the latest Exmor RS sensor, shooting at 8MP resolutions capable of capturing full HD videos. This device has the standard NFC, LTE bands, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA and is MHL ready. Powering all this is the latest S4 Pro processor clocking a dual core processor at 1.7Ghz, with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard memory (expandable with a microSD). As for battery life, we’re expecting an adequate daily usage with the addition of Battery Stamina Mode. Interesting enough, the phone supports Sony’s “Glove mode” where you’re able to navigate the phone even when wearing a pair of gloves!

Xperia L

The Xperia L is Sony’s new addition in the entry level smartphone segment and spots the iconic arc back, similar to the ones on the Xperia arc S/V/J. The Xperia L’s focus would be on the all new Exmor RS sensor, an upgrade from its successor the Xperia J. It spots a dedicated camera button for easy access to the camera function, and allows for a quick snap from sleep mode in just over a second! The Xperia L spots a 4.3″ Reality Display on scratch resistant glass (weighing in at 137g). This device has the standard NFC, HSPA+, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0 and is MHL ready. Powering all this is a dual core processor clocked at 1Ghz, with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard memory (expandable with a microSD). As for battery life, we’re expecting an adequate daily usage with the addition of Battery Stamina Mode.

How do you find the new line-up from Sony? The design sure is unique as compared to most smartphones in the market right now.

Casing Review: TourMate (for Xperia Z)

The TourMate casings have arrived!

The TourMate casing comes in two versions. Both versions are available in black, white, pink and blue.

Version 1

DSC_0559

For this version, the back is matte translucent with clear transparent sides. It is of silicone material and is thus quite flexible, making removal and mounting of the casing much easier. And because of its material, it provides a much stronger and better grip for the phone.

Same as most of the casings introduced, all the charging and audio jack ports, lock/on-off button and volume keys are exposed and unobstructed.

Version 2

In general, there is not much difference between this version and Version 1. The main two differences are its material finishing and the design of the sides. This version is also made of silicone, but it comes in a gloss finish. Grip wise, it works as well as Version 1′s.

The design of the side is slightly different as the opening on the left side (reference from front view) has all its usb port, microSD slot and charger dock access left exposed and unobstructed. For those who plans on getting a charger-dock station, this will probably be the one that caters to your needs.
